A Singer’s High

What do you know about that?  I’m comparing the singer’s high to a runner’s high.  The biggest difference?   You don’t have run a mile or 5 to get it. Sure you may have to have enough singing experience to perform without losing touch of reality.   Some can’t move past the stark fear to the wonder of performance.  If you are still working on it.  Don’t worry it comes with time, and practice.   Sing in front of family, friends, and neighbors until you build the confidence and experience that will make you a performer.
Once you get to that point it doesn’t take much.  It can happen in a 2 minute song.  This is why bel canto singing is 10x better than any other genre.  The feeling of committing your entire body from your feet up can’t be matched. An athlete knows this.  But it doesn’t end there, because you have music to dictate energy of your climax.  And it doesn’t end there because you have an audience, that if you’ve successfully included them in the experience will add their energy to yours to culminate in an orgasmic moment.
Truly all this emotion can make or break you as a singer. There is a little song by Aerosmith that comes to mind “Living on the Edge.”   That could be said for any singer for any genre but it seems to be most apt for those brave opera singers of the verismo sect.   This one is for you.
